It’s important to have the right size MIG torch contact tip. The contact tip is where electricity is conducted onto the MIG wire. The wire must be in contact with the tip to ensure a reliable current flows onto the wire. Over time, with the MIG wire passing through the tip, the hole in which the wire passes through gets eroded. Therefore, the contact tip is considered a wear part and should be changed periodically
